Chammanthi is a common sentiment of Malayalees. If there is one curry that we follow as a tradition, it is Chammanthi. It can be used not only with kanji, dosa, idli and biryani but also with anything. Let’s get to know a few Chammantis that are commonly seen in Kerala…?

Onion Chammanthi

Ingredients:
Small onion – 20 onions
Red chillies – 5 nos
Salt and coconut oil – as needed

Preparation:
Add small onions, chillies and salt and grind it in Ammi itself. Add coconut oil to it and mix it with curd to make onion paste.

Currant pepper cumin

Ingredients:
Currant – eight
Green pepper – one tablespoon
Coconut – ½ cup
Salt, coconut oil, curry leaves – as needed

Preparation:
Soak dried gooseberries in water. Finely grind the dried currants and black pepper in a mixer. Add coconut, salt and curry leaves to it and mix it. Can be mixed with coconut oil

Dried Prawn Powder Chammanthi

Ingredients:
Dried shrimp powder – one cup
Grated Coconut – One and a half cup
Red Chillies – Five
Curry leaves, salt, coconut oil – as needed
Valan tamarind – 10 grams

Preparation:

Fry the shrimp powder in coconut oil. Add red chillies and coconut to it and heat it. Add garlic and curry leaves and grind the shrimp powder well and add coconut oil to it.

Mangosteen

Ingredients:
Chopped sour green mango – one cup
Grated Coconut – One and a half cup
Green chillies – 5 nos
Salt, curry leaves, coconut oil – as needed
Ginger – a piece
Garlic – 3 cloves

Preparation:
Add coconut, green mango, green chillies, salt, curry leaves, ginger and garlic and mix well. If coconut oil is added to the well-dried chamanthi, the chamanthi is ready.

Tomato Chammanthi

Ingredients:
Ripe tomatoes – two
Black pepper – one teaspoon
Green chillies – two nos
Coconut – two cups
Curry leaves – half teaspoon
Garlic – four cloves
Chopped coriander leaves – half teaspoon
Salt and coconut oil – as needed

Preparation:
Finely chop the tomatoes. Grind the coconut, tomatoes, green chillies, garlic, salt, coriander and black pepper (don’t grind it well). Add some curry leaves and coconut oil and stir to combine.

Garlic cloves

Ingredients:
Garlic – 15 cloves
Tamarind – 20 grams
Small onion – 10 grams
Green chillies – 4 nos
Salt, coconut oil, curry leaves – as needed

Preparation:
Crush garlic, green chilli and onion with salt. Coconut oil can be sprinkled on crushed chamanthi with curry leaves and tamarind.

Baked Chammanthi

Ingredients:
Small onion – 20 onions
Red chillies – 5 nos
Salt and coconut oil – as needed

Preparation:

Add small onions, chillies and salt and grind it in Ammi itself. Add coconut oil to it and mix it with curd to make onion paste.
