Govt should withdraw move to cancel Alan Shuhaib’s bail: Citizens for Democracy

Kozhikode: Citizens for Democracy wants the government to withdraw from the move to cancel the bail of Alan Shuhaib in the UAPA case.

In a joint statement, Citizens for Democracy also demanded that the information that a police report has been given to the NIA to cancel the bail of Alan Shuhaib is cause for concern.

According to the statement, a move is being made to cancel the bail on the basis of the case registered by the Dharmadam police in the complaint filed by the SFI against Alan.

In a statement, Citizens for Democracy alleged that Allen was booked for protesting in a completely democratic way with the students against the anti-democratic approaches of the SFI at the Kannur Palayad School of Legal Studies, and that the UAPA was trying to cancel his bail.

After being released from jail in the UAPA case, Allen is trying to get his life back after undergoing treatment and studying law when the student’s bail is revoked and the student is tried to be re-imprisoned. Such retaliatory measures will only serve to prevent healthy social interaction of the student-youth community, the statement added.

Last day Panthirankav U.A.P.A. Panniangara police inspector gave a report to the Kochi NIA court that Allan Shuhaib, the accused in the case, violated the bail conditions.

N.I.A. The court had directed Inspector Panniangara to monitor Alan Shuhaib’s activities while the court granted bail and Inspector Pandirankav to monitor another accused, Taha Fazal.

In 2019, Alan Shuhaib and Taha Fazal, natives of Kozhikode, were arrested on suspicion of Maoist links. Then UAPA filed a case and put him in jail.

Joint statement by Citizens for Democracy:

It is worrying that the police has given a report to the NIA to cancel the bail of Alan Shuhaib, a law student who was jailed for 10 months after being accused in the Panthirankau UAPA case and later got bail after legal battles and protests.

The move to cancel the bail is based on the case registered by the Dharmadam police on the complaint filed by the SFI against Alan. Allan was booked for protesting in a completely democratic way with the students against the anti-democratic approaches of the SFI at the Kannur Palayad School of Legal Studies and is seeking cancellation of bail in the UAPA case.

Both Alan Shuhaib and Taha Fazal were earlier granted bail on the basis of a detailed examination of the NIA’s arguments against them and finding them to be unsubstantiated. The court considered Alan’s age and health problems. After his release from prison, Allen tries to get his life back after receiving treatment and studying law, when the student’s bail is revoked and he tries to re-imprison him.

The move is a hindrance to Alan’s further studies and future as he wants to become an advocate for marginalized people in society. Allan only engaged in democratic and peaceful interaction as any caring and loving human being would do. It is objectionable to retaliate for it.

Such retaliatory measures will only serve to prevent the healthy social interaction of the student-youth community. We demand that the government withdraw this move immediately. We request the government and NIA to withdraw the action to cancel the bail of Alan Shuhaib and the democratic community should stand united with Alan and raise this demand.
